Home Made Barista

Hello World!

How are you getting on with the self-isolating, working from home set ups? It is different, yes. I passed 3 days working from home so far and can say things are going well.

I kept my rhythm of getting up at 6am (you may ask, why the hell am I getting up at 6am if there's no commute included) and I did some workouts at home (there you go!), including some beginners yoga sessions, to keep me sane and relaxed in this whole new world. Then a short shower to wake me up fully and a small breakfast, which I can enjoy stress free, as there is no rush to catch a bus or a train.

The self-isolating made me break my challenge of no coffee and sugars / chocolates quite a few times already. But I am still keeping my head high and focus on the cups of teas. Believe me, once this is all over or starting to normalise again, I won't be able to drink any more peppermint teas.

So yesterday I broke the coffee challenge. I made my first homemade latte. And what a special one.

I have chatted to a few people about me being interested in working as a barista. Behind the counter and serving rather than consuming. Just to know how the work looks like, to learn the different types of coffees and its beans, stare at all the cakes and know for sure that eating is not allowed … 😊

However, I was never brave enough to submit my CV to any of the coffee shops and to leave my current job. Would I want to be a full-time barista? Would I want to deal with tourists who wouldn’t understand what they wanted to order? With some previous hospitality experience, I can somehow imagine what those jobs involve.

With the world shifting around and governments being forced to let bars, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops close their doors, I might have missed the chance for one of those experiences. It will also be hard to find new coffee shops. I might have started with this blog too late (new solutions coming up for this soon!).

However, that doesn’t mean that I am not in need for coffee. And as I have recently bought some oat milk for my porridge, yesterday was the day I decided to give it a try for a home-made oat milk latte. Having mistakenly tried coconut and almond milk lattes, I can definitely say oat milk tastes way better with coffee! Looks like I have to learn the barista experience at home.

Now I just need to stock up on Oatly to keep my skills improving. Just realised that Oatly is also super to stock up - it lasts longer than cow-milk! A reason more to keep drinking it :-)

A happy Thursday to everyone out there!
