A long weekend that called for walks, binge-watching the new Bridgerton season, baking, a trip to Windermere and ... obviously, coffee. I might have just found the place that does the tastiest coffee in Liverpool. Read on to find out where.
The long weekend started off with a Thursday evening I had to work till ... yes, 10pm. Not much to my delight, but it had to be done. Given this unforeseen out of office working hours, it was an inbetween working e-mails and interrupting my boyfriends gaming session agreement, that I would buy train tickets to Windermere. It had been playing on my mind since the realisation that the Easter Bank Holiday is just around the corner, that it would be nice to go for a little walk in the green space of the Lake District. I've been googling about some tracks we could hit, starting off in Windermere. However, came Friday, the day didn't start as well as I'd hoped for, when we arrived in Windermere around 11am. As it was the first time for my boyfriend there and only my second time, I made the same mistake again and brought him down all the way to the lake. Don't get me wrong, the view was beautiful, despite the huge crowds trying to catch one of the lake cruises. I was not to interested at all to step foot on a boat, I'd rather hike some miles around the lake.
I should have known better, given my past experience AND the research I did the evening before: Windermere is not the place to set off your hike. We should have taken the bus right after our arrival to the nearby Ambleside. As we didn't and there were clearly no official paths around the lake, we walked back up through the tiny town and followed a sign to a coffee shop Folk Tab. It was hidden in one of the side streets and given lunch time, I dragged my boyfriend with me for a coffee. I couldn't help, but also read their menu and we ordered something to eat: a root veg sarnie (which stands for sandwich - I had to google this first!) for me and some Korean chicken with fries for my boyfriend. Despite the chill, we sat outside on their wooden bench and discussed whether it was worth the walk I re-researched or not. In the end, after time calculations and train timetables we relied on, we, or I, decided not to take the bus and instead wander around the towns. I must say, I felt quite demotivated and disappointed in myself about this trip. It should have been a discovery of a new place, a day in nature, surrounded by trees, landscapes and greenery. Instead it was walking through a busy, overcrowded little town and spending most of the day on the train to Windermere and back home. The only thing that lightened my mood is that we found this little shop with delicious food and drinks.
With some spare time until the train left Windermere and brought us back to Liverpool, we stopped by a pub and just because, I ordered myself an Apreol Spritz and cheered with myself to the long weekend with hopefully better plans (it was in my hands, I know).
Given the early return to Liverpool and the crashed mood on Friday, I headed to Ryde on Saturday morning to write a bit in my journal about my failed trip (it did haunt me! Otherwise I wouldn't still talk about it ☹️). I've been to Ryde before a few months back during a lunch break, where we only grabbed a take away coffee. To be honest, I didn't remember the coffee that much, but this visit this weekend definitely left an impression. I ordered an oat latte and an avocado on toast and made myself comfortable at one of their indoor tables. I felt bad occupying a table for four, but all other places were already busy. The coffee was served shortly I made myself comfortable and already looked wonderful, served in a glass cup, at a good size. My food arrived soon after and I tucked in. A nicely spread of avocado on a large toast, with two extra slices. I just didn't understand why only the knife came ... the fork was missing. Nevermind, I made it work 😄 After a few bites, I took a sip from the oat latte and was impressed. That coffee really tasted good! Strong, clear and with the perfect balance between coffee and the oat milk, with the coffee slightly overruling the milk. Delicious! I can't remember having ever drunk such a tasty coffee. It was so good, I ordered a second one, especially as I had still a few pages to write.
Two hours later, I left and headed out in the sunshine. I went home, to find my boyfriend finally waking up and we headed to Lucaya for his take on breakfast. He is a big fan of their Eggs Royale and I must confess, they really do know how to do the breakfast there! The rest of the day was then spent home, clearing my wardrobe and spending the evening watching Sing 2 (yes!😄). Inspired by their music, a singing session blaring out U2 and The Police followed, before I settled for Season 2 of Bridgerton. Finally! I binge-watched until it was almost 2am and I left the last two episodes for Sunday evening.
On Easter Sunday, I motivated myself to bake a "Zopf" - a typical Swiss Sunday bread (you might remember that I did that two years ago during lockdown as well, see Cosy Home). The day was spent quite chilled at home, reminiscing about life. The last day of the long weekend and with another sunny day today, I brought my boyfriend to Ryde and made him taste the coffee, too. I just enjoyed it so much that I had to come back. We sat outside in the sun and it might be hard to believe, but I actually got really excited when my oat latte was served. It's the little things that make you smile. And as we were back around 3pm this afternoon, I found myself watching Pride and Prejudice and I think, Lord Anthony Bridgerton will be the Mr. Darcy of the 21st century. 😉
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter Bank Holiday and have a wonderful start to this 4-day week ahead!
